Bidding Help
Bidding on this site can be done either manually, or by placing a maximum bid (automatic bidding).
Placing a Manual Bid is straight-forward. You bid once, and that's it unless you're outbid, and want to bid again.
When placing an automatic Maximum Bid, you enter the maximum amount you'd be willing to pay for that item, and the system will bid on your behalf up to that amount.
The price of that item will stay as one increment more than the previous highest bid - or in the case of the first bid: no matter how high you make your maximum bid, the items price will stay at the Starting Bid unless someone places another bid.
This system is designed to ensure you get the best possible price for the item you're bidding on.
For example:
Lets say there's an item with no bids on it, and a starting bid of $300 with increments of $10 allowed.
When Andrew (A.W. - WA) places a maximum bid of $400, the current bid stays at $300 (because there's no competition for it).
Now if John (J.H. - QLD) places a manual bid of $350, his bid is placed, but immediately outbid by Andrews automatic maximum bid. The current bid would be set at $360 - one increment more than the previous maximum bid.
Unhappy with this, John might place a manual bid of $450. This would beat Andrews maximum bid of $400 (which is added to the history to show what Andrews maximum bid was), and the current bid would then be set at $450.
